Trauma and Innovation Workshops

At Milton Outreach Ministries (MOM), we harness trauma and transform it into innovation by creating a therapeutic workshop for children who have been displaced and separated from their biological parents. Our mission is to build a nurturing environment that helps these children rediscover joy and stability. This 12-month program is structured to provide comprehensive support through four key components: Trauma-Informed Counseling, Life Skills "The Workshop," Community Integration and Socialization, and Parent/Caregiver Support. Each component is designed to address the unique needs of the children and to foster a sense of safety, love, and empowerment.

Child Therapy

Trauma-Informed Counseling

The first component of our program is Trauma-Informed Counseling, which operates three days per week. We utilize evidence-based therapeutic practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) to effectively address trauma. Our approach is not just about therapy; it's about crafting a holistic plan that nurtures the body, mind, and spirit. Comprehensive assessments are conducted to tailor personalized care plans for each child, addressing emotional, behavioral, and developmental needs. This trauma can manifest as sleeplessness, anxiety, PTSD, and depressive symptoms, making early intervention crucial for long-term well-being.

Human-Robot Friendship

Life Skills "The Workshop"

The second component, Life Skills "The Workshop", focuses on equipping children with practical skills necessary for the current job market and daily life. Activities are held twice a week and include modern, technology-oriented skills such as coding, digital marketing, and robotics. These workshops emphasize solving real-life problems and completing projects, fostering a hands-on learning experience. Our innovative and interactive learning environments are designed to build confidence and resilience, preparing participants for future success.

Community Integration and Socialization

The third component, Community Integration and Socialization, ensures that children develop strong social skills and peer support networks. Activities occur weekly and include community service projects, group outings, and recreational events. These activities aim to provide normative childhood experiences and foster a sense of belonging. By engaging in extracurricular activities and peer bonding, children can explore their feelings in a safe space and build resilience. Mentorship from trusted adults is also a key element, offering guidance and support.

Parent/Caregiver Support

The fourth component, Parent/Caregiver Support, recognizes the importance of family systems in a child's healing journey. This component involves bi-monthly sessions that engage parents, caregivers, and community members, fostering stronger attachments and connections. Strategies and support mechanisms are provided to assist caregivers in managing and coping with the mental health symptoms of their children. By involving everyone in the healing process, we enhance the overall effectiveness of the program and ensure a comprehensive support system for each child.

Consultation

Our 12-month program is designed to create a therapeutic workshop and a new beginning for children who have faced unimaginable challenges. By addressing both individual needs and broader social aspects, we aim to provide a holistic approach to participant growth and rehabilitation. Join us in this mission to build a community where every child feels safe, loved, and empowered to thrive.Additionally, my training exposed me to two other vulnerable populations - victims of sex trafficking and domestic abuse. I saw the need for trauma-focused care and support for these individuals as well. This realization led to the birth of MOM - a nonprofit organization that aims to meet the needs of children, adults, and families from hard places.
