Values

Sufficient resources need to be applied to a complete range of mental health and developmental disability services, and then effectively applied through therapeutic interventions, education, treatment, and community integration design.

Mental and physical health are essential to the development and realization of every person’s full potential.

People with mental illnesses and cognitive deficits can recover and live healthy and productive lives.

All people should have access to a full array of high quality, community-based, culturally competent, integrated mental health and cognitive deficit services regardless of ability to pay.

Children who are at risk of out of home placement, their families or surrogate families must have access to high quality, community-based, integrated systems of care.

All people are unique and it is essential we provide advocacy, services, education, and training using person-centered philosophy.

The promotion of mental health/developmental disabilities and the prevention of mental, emotional and social problems is the responsibility of every person and social institution in the community.

We value inclusiveness and cultural competence at all levels of the movement and envision broad-based citizen participation as essential to the community.

Incorporation of all stakeholders is an essential key to the success of the services provided.

Milton Outreach Ministries (MOM) | Trauma-focused care

Milton Outreach Ministries

MOM is a nonprofit organization that was created to meet the needs of children, adults, and families facing difficult circumstances. We focus on providing support to children who have been displaced or are at risk of entering the foster care system.
• Our organization offers a comprehensive range of services to individuals in this population. We provide therapeutic services, including individual and family counseling, to youth who are in foster care or at risk of being placed out of their homes. Our experienced clinicians incorporate evidence-based treatment modalities with a focus on trauma-focused care.
• In addition to counseling, we also encourage these young people to build confidence, learn team-building skills, and develop stronger relationships through participation in extra-curricular activities. To facilitate this, we provide financial stipends for them to engage in these activities and acquire the necessary equipment, supplies, or gear.

Foster Care

One of our goals is to support reunification efforts, so we offer trauma-focused family counseling and parenting training to biological parents, foster parents, and kinship caregivers. We understand that biological parents who have had their children removed from their custody also need therapeutic services, and we provide that support as well. All our services are person-centered and tailored to address therapeutic needs. MOM will incorporate evidence-based, trauma-focused treatment modalities into our service provision, ensuring that our clients receive the most effective care.

Victims of Domestic Violence and Sex Trafficking

In addition to our work with children in the foster care system, we also focus on providing trauma-focused care to victims of sex trafficking and domestic abuse. Our specialized clinicians offer trauma-based counseling to program recipients, and we also provide support for skill-building and housing. For individuals with a co-occurring diagnosis, we we will link to therapeutic treatment in that area as well.

By offering these services, Milton Outreach Ministries aims to help individuals process trauma, develop coping mechanisms, and manage their symptoms and deficits. My former principal once described me as a “natural born” teacher. But I like to think of myself as a “natural born” student.

My experience: Over the years, I have grown to love the process of examining underlying causalities that often inflict an individual’s mental health and learning how to apply therapeutic principles to assist with healing deficits and improving functioning.
My expertise lies in the areas of working with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness (may be transitioning from acute psychiatric hospitalization), Depression, Anxiety, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and at-risk youth.
I have a proven track record in working with individuals with Depression (suicidal ideation and or attempts), Anxiety as well as Severe and Persistent Mental Illness. I am committed to working with individuals within these populations, primarily because many have a high level of acuity, which demands an intense services and treatment due to the need of various levels of social and health supports.

My focus: I understand that individuals who struggle with mental illness are a heterogeneous group of people whose environmental circumstances, mental, physical, and cognitive health impairments may lead to a deterioration in their ability to function in various life domains. This speaks to the necessity of my engaging in clinical practices that adheres to the fidelity of treatment modalities that are influenced by both ecological as well as person centered theoretical principles. Because of this, I have invested in the development of therapeutic strategies and techniques to assist with meeting the needs of individuals within this population.
